EA's new marketing strategy, "Project Buy The Game Immediately," will be applied to certain launch copies of Criterion's upcoming Need for Speed game. When Hot Pursuit is released on November 16, the so-called "Limited Edition" of the game will be offered for the same $60 price as the standard version through participating retailers and "while supplies last." The Limited Edition will include two exclusive cars (see below) and immediate access to four additional rides, which are otherwise unlocked through the painstaking process of actually playing the game.

Plot :
Electronic Arts unveiled details about the Limited Edition version of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit this week at Gamescom. What's so special about the Limited Edition? Well, you'll get a few extra cars in the game. That's it. No miniature Need For Speed car models. No exclusive poster. Indeed, it seems the only thing you'll get is in-game content that EA obviously siphoned off from the regular version of the game so that it could lock it out and charge extra for it in the Limited Edition.
Those who purchase the special version of NFS:HP will receive the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, Ford Shelby GT500, Audi TT RS Coupé, Chevrolet Camaro SS, Porsche Cayman S and Dodge Challenger SRT8 right off the bat. Most of those will still actually be available in the regular version of the game, but players will have to figure out how to unlock them.
Seriously, though, I call huge shenanigans on this thing actually being called a "Limited Edition," because there's nothing of value for a collector in this package. This is just EA being seriously cheap.
